A Vision For The Future

Dear Friend & Potential Architect of the New Creation,

Between now and the year 2012, we are going to be forced to begin changing our affluent, consumerist, competitive, market force driven way of living life. Well before the year 2050, life as we know it today will have completely fallen apart and be in process of being rebuilt surrounded by considerable chaos. I will explain the background that forms the support for these projections, but first it is important to first share with you an extremely important insight, one that may dramatically increase your fulfillment and satisfaction while you are here and continue long beyond your own lifetime – positively impacting your children, grandchildren and beyond.

Before daily life becomes difficult and challenging for most people, you and we have the power to not only plant seeds for future generations, but also have the opportunity to dramatically improve the quality of our own lives during the emerging transitional period that is now underway.

It will take our society more than a 100 years to shift into the coming required new way of life that will be needed to guarantee the survival of our global population. Prior to the large scale implementation of these coming changes, however, a series of transitional periods will occur. If we wait until the actual time when change occurs, these periods will be filled with much panic, crisis, pain and suffering. If some of us plan ahead and begin working on future solutions today, we and the world around us will benefit greatly when things become difficult. We will then be able to assume leadership roles to help others learn how to build a bridge of their own to successfully make it through the transitional periods that will be emerging between now and the year 2050.

The 1000 Year Home Foundation has been formed to be able to help you do that and I now invite you to become one of the first members of a new group which I'm calling “Architects of a New Creation.”

While we identify emerging problems and explore immediate potential preliminary solutions and gather the support of creative, visionary people all over the world, we will be able to utilize this new organization to provide an important leadership role that could last throughout the next 100 years and beyond.

A neutral grass roots organization is needed that is not affiliated with any religious, spiritual or philosophical group, and also is independent of large business and political ties. This is the role that 1000 Year Home is taking to make sure that belief systems, prior tradition, or inappropriate experience do not block our way as we search for the most solid long-term solutions for replacing existing structure. This organization will be guided by a group of people who have experienced life in the Western world and understand its good and bad aspects and can sift through our current foundational structures to help define, guide, and create a new society, a new creation that will be called upon to emerge as the various global problems begin to unfold (coming oil crisis, depletion of natural resources, global warming, environmental destruction, etc). I will share with you briefly some of the critical emerging problems that need to be dealt with so you can understand the emerging energies that 1000 Year Home is working with:

• Our society, based on market forces, the profit motive, affluent living standards and economic growth is unsustainable: Our natural resources are running out and soon will not support our current consumer demand.
  • Underdeveloped countries like China and India are currently trying to achieve the high consumption levels of the West and contain the largest proportion of the world’s population.
  • World population is estimated to be in excess of 9 billion people by the year 2050 (US Bureau of the Census).
  • Oil resources are predicted to peak as early as 2010 and steadily decline until exhausted by 2040 to 2050. At the end of 1999, oil was trading for around $10 per barrel. Since then, it has risen by about 29% per year. Extending that trend will find oil at $100 per barrel in about three years and $160 per barel in five. Can you imagine the effect this will have on our global economy - just this one single issue?
• Our high consumption has created havoc with the earth’s environment and we face severe consequences such as global warming, acid rain, and other life threatening crises that will appear over the next few decades.
• When you measure our increasing consumer appetites, our dwindling natural resources, and the damage that our environment has occurred, it becomes evident that we are facing some major and possibly insurmountable problems between now and the next few decades. Many people are going to pay a severe price in the future for our lack of integrity and aversion to accounting for our actions.
• As American industry has lost productive capacity, it has become increasingly difficult for the U.S. to produce enough--and sell enough--to reduce it's incredible national debt. The massive U.S. trade and current-account deficits, now at around 6% of the gross domestic product, mean that non-Americans are exchanging consumer goods today for consumer goods they will not be able to enjoy in the future.
• The U.S. economy doesn't have the ability to supply those future goods after what we've done to it. We are using dollars that we print to exchange for goods that we don't produce. We have to borrow from abroad as there are no domestic sources of savings, so the value of those dollars will continue to fall and will generate an impending crisis in our ability to deal with, live within, or purchase anything from abroad.
• How bad will it get? Very bad. The dollar will fall a lot lower than it already has--dropping by perhaps 50% against the Japanese and Chinese currencies. How will our government respond? Could efforts to forestall the currency decline have a perverse--and ultimately negative--effect? No matter what the outcome, Americans will have to consume a lot less and save a lot more. Spending on cars, clothing and electronics will all drop dramatically--perhaps right out of the economy.

One of the few powerful solutions that will help to alleviate the crisis that will be emerging is to begin designing and building smaller, extremely well planned, and very high quality residential space that is capable of helping us to withstand the pressures (energy, food, nurture, stress) that will be creating havoc for anyone living within today's conventional spaces. We not only need to reduce our energy requirements, but we also need to live within space that is capable of supporting life during future energy or food crises. In addition, due to the stress that is involved, our spaces really need to nurture us better than our current technology provides. It is nurture, solidity, and substance that is lacking in life and a new form of residential space can establish that and bring positive support into our chaotic lives.

With adequate time and through acquisition of critical knowledge, we are capable of creating the kind of residential space that will not only sustain and support life, but will also create higher living standards that can nurture and support us in ways that until now have not been considered mainstream.

A VISION FOR A NEW SOCIETY

The 1000 Year Home Foundation has been created to support a vision of a new society. During the coming transitional periods, gradual shifts and changes in approach will be required. Over time, radical change can occur, but the length of time required to make far reaching fundamental change may be beyond any single lifetime. As a result, we need to plan ahead at least 200 years or more into the future and attempt to have the efforts that we make today last as long as is possible so they can accrue and positively affect people long into the future. Leaving legacies for future generations is our goal rather than mindless self centered consumption.

The unfolding of 1000 Year Home Foundation:

Over the next few years, our 1000 Year Home Concept will be unfolding and I would like to share with you the expected stages of its development.

• The vision has already been established and will continue to be refined over time.
• An initial master mind group will be formed to guide the refinement of this vision as well as the creation of a sound business plan and fund raising activities.
• The initial first level technology will be acquired to begin the construction of our first few prototype homes. The initial parameters and concepts used within these first few homes have already been formed and will be the basis for improvement and development in the future. Without actual physical space and hands on models, we will not be able to render adequate interest, enthusiasm and support. As each new home is built in the future, new concepts, ideas, and solutions will be explored.
• As actual building activity gets underway, 1000 Year Home Foundation will create a public database to report everything that works and doesn’t work in past design and construction projects. This sharing is what will eventually become of great value to many people all over the world who desire to work with our past ideas and construction successes.
• Once a few prototype home have been built, we will begin a substantial effort to create a large planned community that contains anywhere from 25 to 100 homes and is the subject of a global architectural and design effort that is shared by many qualified people. An international architectural design contest will be established for each and every home and multiple cash awards will be given for submissions that are integrated into a particular home or in our underlying foundational systems. This planned community will require substantial funding which is expected to come entirely from private gifts and grant sources.
• Once we have established the parameters for community planning and have created a core group of consultants who are tied into our organization, we will then reach out into the world as a design and planning organization to help any group that has the funding, land, and interest to create additional communities.

For now, I invite you to participate as an “Architect of a New Creation.” To become a member of this group, you will need to complete one of our prequalification questionnaires. After answering the questions and submitting them for review, you will be notified whether your interests, background, qualifications, or capability for help and support mesh with the overall direction during our initial startup period. If they do, you will be invited to join us. Please realize that our startup period is a very critical time and can only include the most highly motivated people capable of supporting our vision. In addition, we cannot interface with a large group of people at the moment and need to qualify those who are capable of joining us and can extend our initial work.
